App 5: create the Etsy draft
Install App 5, connect your Etsy shop, and check your first draft listing.
The video for this lesson is titled Automation 6. App 5 completes the chain. It takes everything from Apps 2 to 4 and builds an Etsy draft listing, with the product data, tags, alt text and images, ready for you to review and publish.
The blueprint file is in the Skool group, or on your members page on the guided route. Download it if you have not already.
Before you start
- App 4 is finished.
- Your Google Sheet is ready.
- Your Etsy account is to hand.
- Your image folders are organised.
A note on the video. The video opens with a webhook module at the start of App 5. In the blueprint that first module is the scenario start. Leave it as it is, and click Save. It is how App 4 hands the product over. The video also suggests entering your usual price in the draft module. Most sellers do this and adjust prices in Etsy afterwards, since a price is required.
Steps
- Install App 5. Create a new scenario, import the App 5 blueprint, click Save, then Save again. Saving is what makes App 5 appear in App 4’s dropdown.
- Check the starter module. The first module starts App 5 when App 4 calls it. Leave it as it is.
- Link your main Google Sheet. Open the first Google Sheets module. Select your account and the spreadsheet Automate Etsy / Collections / Digital Products / Digital Products. Refresh, select any sheet, then switch it to Product Data. Click Save, then open it and Save again. This locks your data source.
- Connect your Etsy account. Click Add a new connection and name it, for example Etsy Store. In the popup, sign in, complete two-factor authentication if asked, approve access and select your shop. Refresh and Save. This lets Make create draft listings in your shop.
- Review the draft module. This module creates the Etsy draft. Enter a default price, which is required. The blueprint arrives with a placeholder price, so enter your own. Nothing here is final: the price, the shop section and the category can all be changed in Etsy before you publish. Check the Shop section field: choose one of your own sections from the list, or leave it empty. The blueprint arrives with another shop’s section number, and Etsy rejects a section that does not exist in your shop. The category and the other fixed settings are preset for a digital download, so check them on your first draft and change them in Etsy if they do not suit your product. Select your Etsy account, refresh and Save.
- Reconnect the next Google Sheet. Same account and spreadsheet. Refresh, select another tab, then switch it to Product Data. Click Save. This writes the confirmation back to your Sheet.
- Link the Drive and image modules. Select your Google Drive account and Save. Navigate to Automate Etsy / Images / Listings. For every Etsy image and alt text module, select your Etsy account, refresh and Save. Every module must use the same accounts.
- Double-check every connection. Go through each module and confirm Google Sheets points at your Digital Products spreadsheet, Google Drive points at the right folders, and Etsy points at your shop.
- Set the email notification. This step is required. Open the Email module and select your email account, granting permission if asked. Make sends the notice to the shopemail you set in App 2, so check that value is filled in there. The email carries the product title, the SKU and a direct link to the Etsy draft. Its subject line says the listing is live, but it is a draft, so you may want to edit the subject to say the draft is ready. Click Save.
- Link the chain. Return to App 4 and App 3 and confirm each purple scenario call points at the next app: App 2 to App 3, App 3 to App 4, App 4 to App 5.
Check your first listing
Submit one product through your form, with its ten images already uploaded and named, and let the chain run. When the email arrives, open the draft link and check:
- The title, description and tags read the way you want.
- All ten images are there, in order.
- The price is what you set.
- The listing is a draft. Nothing is published automatically.
You always review and publish the listing yourself. Etsy does not charge listing fees until you publish.
If something does not look right, check your connections module by module, then email [email protected] or ask in the Skool group.
That is the whole system installed.
